Theory of Knowledge is one of the more confusing subjects in the IB and we understand that, but there is no need to worry because we here at tutorUs can help you out!
The ToK assignments are split into two different assessments: the presentation and the essay, today we are going to discuss how to structure your TOK presentation to help make your life easier when preparing for it!
Ideally, you should have 9 slides to cover everything you need from your title page to your bibliography.
ToK slides structure:
Slide 1: Title page
- On this slide, you should have the title of your presentation as well as the names of the people in your group.
- When presenting this you want to explain what you thought of the RLS when you first encountered it as well as explain why it's significant to you.
Slide 2: Decontextualization
- You want to list some of the thoughts or questions that you had regarding the RLS, try using ToK terminology within this slide to show that you have an understanding of what you studied in class.
- When presenting you need to be able to show the marker a clear thought process between your RLS and your KQ, you can do this by explaining a few of the things that we know about the RLS and how we know them. It may also be smart to add a few limits as to what we can know about the RLS.
Slide 3: Knowledge Question
- On this slide, you need to have a very clear KQ. You also need to list your AoKs and/or your Woks that you are going to use to explore your KQ and how they are related to it.
- When presenting, explain how this KQ will help you explain your RLS, as well as explain how each of your AoKs and WoKs will help you answer your KQ.
Slide 4: Development 1
- Briefly mention your claim for AOK number 1. After mentioning your claim you need to explain how it is supported by evidence.
- In order to present a good argument you always need to also mention the counter-arguments. You need to state your counter-claim for AOK number 1 and explain how it is supported by evidence.
- State your mini-conclusion after you claim + counter-claim.
Slide 5: Development 2
- Briefly mention your claim for AOK number 2. After mentioning your claim you need to explain how it is supported by evidence.
- In order to present a good argument you always need to also mention the counter-arguments. You need to state your counter-claim for AOK number 2 and explain how it is supported by evidence.
- State your mini-conclusion after you claim + counter-claim.
Slide 6: Development 3
- Briefly mention your claim for AOK number 2. After mentioning your claim you need to explain how it is supported by evidence.
- In order to present a good argument you always need to also mention the counter-arguments. You need to state your counter-claim for AOK number 2 and explain how it is supported by evidence.
- State your mini-conclusion after you claim + counter-claim.
Slide 7: Conclusion
- Present your conclusion from your findings. Explain how this conclusion is supported by insights you've made in your mini conclusions throughout the presentation.
- Try to also include how your conclusion may be flawed, as it shows a broader understanding of the topic. Explain the perspective of a different person.
Slide 8: Link back to the RLS
- Find 2 ways that your conclusion links to the Real life situation that you have presented.
- Write down 2 other Real life situations, one of these situations should be a personal experience whereas the other should be more of a shared experience.
Slide 9: Bibliography
- Just make sure you've cited your sources correctly based on which method your school uses, but other than that don't stress you're done!
Best of luck and I hope you found this guide useful!
